I chose a theme related to home and to change. The things that brought people to Portland, landmarks like The Rheinlander & Gustav's, are going away for so many reasons, much of which has to do with demand for land and housing. Big, new, (and in my opinion) soulless buildings are rising in their places. Yet with all this new housing, it remains as unaffordable as ever for so many. Change is inevitable, I tell myself. Change happened before you arrived here, and will continue long after you are gone. I still find it very sad.
He gets us up way too early - six or so, unless some poor soul needs to stir earlier. He hounds us with his forlorn, then panicked meowing until someone gets up and feeds him. Finally sated and calm, he watches kitty t.v. from the back of the sofa. Some days it's birds, others it's squirrels. After we have all gotten up and about our independent days, then and only then does this old man of a cat sleep.
Sometimes one has to go no further than the back yard. I couldn't resist these colorful, striped fungi.
