That's pavement, not a yard from the corner of the old house. Who lived here,? Who died here? What dramas unfolded? How did it come to be abandoned? ![]() The question that really bothers me, though, is this - With that gigantic beautiful meadow extending into infinity behind this house, why, oh why, is it practically sitting on the road?

The first place that impressed the heck out of us was Eagle Rock. I did not touch up the photo except to crop - it really WAS that brilliant outside today. ![]() The road along the Crooked River is very windy here - which is what makes it so beautiful. I don't tend to think of wetlands in the high desert, but the area along the river is a vibrant, lively wetland. This is it. The whole town of Post. I sometimes forget, living in Portland, that there are places this quiet in the world. At this point, it was getting pretty hot outside, and the light was, frankly, getting too bright for decent photography, so we headed back to Prineville to enjoy the picnic we brought along. We ran into these two characters. I suspect they are at this very minute splashing around in Prineville's outdoor pool. Clearly, they have their priorities straight.
Just over two years ago, this space on the Warm Springs Reservation was afire. Look at it now, after record precipitation. Water works wonders. It really looked this brilliant today - very blue sky, purple wild lupine and pink tassled grasses as far as the eye can see.
I was feeling bad about not being able to get out in the yard and pay proper attention to it. To be fair I was downright grieving over it. Despite my neglect, I found hidden gems all around. My camera phone did an admirable job of capturing them in the twilight.
