The trip through the foothills of the Willamette Valley was a scenic treat in its own right. I thoroughly enjoyed escaping the city and the crowds. There were plenty of spaces with no people around. ....and then there was this spectacular field of flowers. I couldn't resist it!

One of the best things about gardening is that you never know what will be ready to harvest when. Looks like this week is purple broad beans. They are SO tender! Odd that they turn green when cooked or marinated, though. Yes, these came from my little garden. These favas did NOT come from my garden, but from someone else's .... ala Farmer's Market. I thought they were too spectacular to leave out. (Please keep the Hannibal Lecter comments to yourself. It's been overdone.)
Portland's original Rose Garden is so very elegant - with it's stately elder trees, and a fountain surrounded by fragrant rose after fragrant rose. It was a bit brighter out than I realized, so the photos are pretty colorful....quite a lot of peach/orange roses were in bloom. They had a slight spicy scent to them. ....and of course, red and white are always classics. The blue tones in this photo were a happy surprise. Thistle? Or some member of the thistle family? I never know what I may see at this park. Today it appears to be a la quincinera. Sometimes it is people holding a dance in the gazebo. Or a wedding. Or people playing bocci ball and having a picnic.
