Last year we harvested two gorgeous apples from our tree after thinking all of the apples had been lost to worms. Yet, in early September I took out the compost, looked up, and there were two gorgeous apples that had escaped the infestation. They were wonderful, crisp apples. One was eaten sliced, and one became spiced apple waffles.
This year, I was also afraid we had not been successful in our efforts to grow apples. I often thank the powers of the universe that I do not need to live off of what i can grow, though my weight concerns would diminish considerably. Yet here they are - while four apples managed to stay on the tree, three of them were in good shape. I haven't decided what to do with them yet. One may be a birthday gift for my brother. I hope he will understand the value of one beautiful apple.
